Justin Simmons scored the only goal ten minutes from time as Withdean won 1-0 away to St Margaretsbury in their FA Vase second round replay.

Simmons was first to react after a Sam Francis shot had been parried by the home keeper.

Francis was earlier denied what appeared to be a clear penalty and he also had another effort disallowed.

Withdean general manager Mark Stevens said: "The boys played superbly. They battled their hearts out and we thoroughly deserved the result."

They now travel to Ford Sports Daventry in the third round this Saturday.

A below strength Eastbourne Borough slipped to a 3-2 extra time defeat in their Dr Martens League Cup second round clash at home to Burnham.

After a scrappy and sometimes fiery encounter it took a goal five minutes into extra time to decide the game.

But the outcome might well have been different had leading scorer Scott Ramsay not missed a penalty three minutes from the end.

Burnham went ahead on eight minutes when defensive slackness allowed 16-year-old Alex Toley to nip in and slot past Dean Lightwood.

Borough had the better of the first half but did not get on terms until eight minutes after the interval when a Dave Adams cross was slammed in by sub Rob Longhurst.

Burnham regained the lead four minutes later through Michael Bartley.

Borough forced the game into extra time with a second equaliser, midfielder Dave Read running on to a long ball and beating keeper Danny Honey in the 83rd minute.

But it was all to no avail as Geoff Brown clinched a third round place for Burnham when he met a square ball and netted a dramatic winner.

Whitehawk claimed a place in the third round of the Sussex Senior Cup with a 3-0 win over Ringmer. Goals came from Dean Venton (penalty), Tommy Pattenden and Simon Rowland.
