Billy Smith has pleaded with fans to be patient as Crawley attempt to book their place in the second round of the FA Cup tonight.

The pressure is on because Crawley are slight favourites to reach the second round where a home tie with Dagenham & Redbridge awaits the winners.

The first match ten days ago finished in a 1-1 draw after Nic McDonnell equalised for Crawley.

Tonight's winners pocket £20,000 but Smith is well aware Tiverton will be no pushover.

The Devon club are fourth in the Dr Martens League, three places higher than Crawley and boast two proficient goalscorers in Philip Everett and Kevin Nancekivell, who have 15 league goals between them this term.

Smith said: "When we are the home team the fans always expect great things from us. Away from home they are a lot less demanding and I think that helps us.

"We want to win at home but at is not always the case because other teams will do their upmost to stop us and they can hit us on the break.

"We seem to score more goals away from home and the fans expect us to do the same at home. I hope supporters will be patient and we can get the result we all want."

Crawley's fans are notoriously hard to please and Smith fears their anxiety could filter through to the players should they fail to make an early breakthrough.

He said: "Sometimes if a chance or two goes missing, people get nervous and that can do the players more harm than good.

"Tiverton are a hard-working side and we'll have to be patient. Their manager felt they didn't play too well in the first game and they'll be trying to redress that."

Midfielder Barry Moore is cup-tied but Smith has no injury worries and will pick from a fully fit squad.

Tiverton manager Martyn Rogers says his side were not at their best in the first game but is confident of progressing.

They have never reached the second round and Rogers would love to lead the club into unchartered territory.

He said: "It's probably the biggest game in the club's history. We have never had a such a chance to get to the second round before and I would love to take us there.

"Crawley didn't allow us to play at our place and they will be favourites for the replay.

"It will be tough with a big crowd cheering them on. We have it all to do but I know we have another performance left in us."
