Wins for Haywards Heath and Brighton ensured Sussex sides continued to chase a promotion hat-trick in the senior regional leagues.

Heath skipper Alex Meredith rated his side's display their best of the season so far as they won 23-0 in a mudbath at Cheshunt.

The result keeps Heath hot on the heels of London One leaders Southend, who have still to visit Whitemans Green.

Southend also had a win, away to Staines, but promotion rivals Thanet Wanderers slipped up at home to London Nigerians.

Meredith said: "That was probably the best performance over 80 minutes all season. We were chuffed to bits.

"We had 90 per cent of the territory and possession. The final points tally probably does not reflect that but we were delighted not to concede any points."

Dave Wattam's clever switch of play set up Nick Dinsdale to power over for the first try from 15 yards out.

Winger Henry Goodburn added a superb long-range finish. He should have had a second try but dropped the ball over the line.

Owen Ashton was in great form with the boot, converting both tries and kicking three penalties.

Meredith added: "Cheshunt are not a bad side. Other teams will get turned over up there."

Meanwhile, Brighton beat Tonbridge Juddian 38-27 in an excellent London Three South East contest at Waterhall.

Mark Jenkins' men were also looking to bounce back from from a rare defeat and the skipper said: "This was the perfect result for us.

"It's good to be back on track again although we picked up more injuries, which is a problem."

Rob Ross (2), Gary Halpin, James Lewis and Richard Parry got over with Mark Gibb's boot completing their tally.
