Crime writer Ruth Rendell is to be guest of honour at a literary lunch to raise money for victims of domestic violence on Friday.

Baroness Rendell will give a speech and sign copies of her books at the lunch being held in the Royal Albion Hotel on Brighton seafront.

The lunch has been organised by the Red Card Appeal for the Brighton and South Downs area of the Women's Refuge Project.

Head of Brighton and Hove police Chief Superintendent Doug Rattray, will speak briefly in support of the work done by the project.

Project director Jean Calder said: "We are delighted that someone of Ruth Rendell's stature has agreed to support our appeal."

Baroness Rendell will speak at 1.45pm and answer questions. Tickets cost £20 and are available from 01273 622828.
