Thanks for your mention of our store in The Sentinel. We have considered staging flamenco dancing in the town centre but few in Worthing seem interested.

We held a free display in The Steyne last summer - to a very small audience - and have twice held displays of dancing and guitar in front of our store on warm days.

We have held displays at several charity events and have twice offered our services to Worthing Borough Council for a town centre display but it has so far ignored us.

We are a nationwide business that chooses to be based in Worthing so it is very frustrating being ignored in our home town.

Duende Flamenco Store is the leading shop for all things flamenco in the UK and operates in association with the largest flamenco school in southern England.

We often work in collaboration with the UK's leading theatres when they present flamenco shows.

Already this year we have worked with Sadlers Wells, the Barbican, the South Bank Centre, the Royal Albert Hall - all in London - and Glyndebourne.

Our flamenco resource centre is probably the finest in the UK and is regularly consulted by the Spanish Embassy, the Instituto Cervantes and TV, theatre and dance companies. So, if anyone's askin', we're dancin'.

Regarding the piece on Spanish families in Worthing, apparently many go back to the Thirties. During the Spanish Civil War, a ship arrived at Shoreham harbour carrying hundreds of starving refugee families from the Valencia area and a huge load of oranges.

The oranges were largely given away to local kids, many of whom had never seen one. The families, all with anti-Franco sympathies, were helped by many local councils and trade union branches and a temporary transit camp was set up in The Steyne.

Many families were dispersed throughout the South, some eventually returned to Spain but quite a few settled in the town and some are still here.

-* Editor's note: Shame on Worthing Borough Council for not replying. Perhaps town centre manager Anne Angel will take Helena and Graham up on their offer. South Place or Montague Place would be an ideal location for such a dramatic display.
