Skipper Will Champness believes Lewes must win two of their next four games to avoid a relegation scrap in National League division two.

Lewes face fixtures against Bath Buccaneers on Sunday, Blueharts, Havant and Peterborough Town ahead of the Christmas break.

After last week's 3-0 humbling by Sussex rivals East Grinstead, Champness knows his side could be dragged into a relegation battle for a second successive year.

Champness, who was part of the Lewes side relegated from division one last year, said: "We are not playing that badly but we get within 30 yards of goal and it stops there.

"We feel the last four games before Christmas are key. We are playing two sides below us and two above us.

"We don't want to get into a relegation battle. The problem is confidence but if we start scoring goals, confidence will come back."

First team forwards Tim Garner and Andy Pike, who have scored three goals between them in seven league games to date, will play for the seconds tomorrow in a bid to boost their confidence ahead of Sunday's visit by fourth placed Bath.

Champness said: "We need to be getting four points from these next four games, otherwise come February everyone could be sweating.

"The players we have got should be good enough to compete at this level but we need to be scoring goals and that is the key problem at the moment."

Andrew Medcalf returns from injury for East Grinstead as they visit Nottingham. Medcalf made a comeback for the seconds last weekend Matt McNeill is absent while Alex Keen steps down after being called up for last week's derby win over Lewes.

Brighton have three injury doubts ahead of their game with rock bottom Old Williamsonians in the Kent/Sussex Regional League.

Paul Watson and Kevin Brown are both suffering with leg injuries while Simon Acott expects to play despite picking up a knock in the draw with Tunbridge Wells last weekend.

Horsham call up Chris Perkins from the seconds for their game at home to Mid Sussex.

James Beer also returns but Andy Crossley and Brian Humphries both step down, Robbie Ashton is out until Christmas and Hamish White, who missed last week's defeat at home to Blackheath, plays for the seconds.

Phoenix will represent Sussex in the regional mixed championships in February after successfully defending their county title last Sunday.

Phoenix beat Sussex Police 13-0 in their first game before squandering a 2-0 lead, given to them by Mark Ansel and Nicky Becvar, to draw 2-2 with Chichester.

In the final game, Phoenix needed only to draw to retain their title but a cracking goal by Ian Brown from a penalty corner earned them a 1-0 win over Hailsham.
