If the scaffolders (Letters, October 29) had read my comments (Letters, October 24) without getting angry about them, they would have perceived I was not running down the building trade.
I only said firefighters' pay should be raised to the same level as theirs.
When I was a teenager during the War, my pay started at less than £1 a week - not much money to put your life on the line.
