The Sussex CA's open hill climb this Saturday was to have been the final road event of the season, but now it looks like being the penultimate event.

Brighton Mitre's 25-mile open time trial last weekend had to be called off for safety reasons because of the 80mph winds but the club is hoping that it will be able to take place on Sunday instead.

Promoter Robin Johnson will be notifying the 126 riders as soon as he can confirm the new date. Johnson can be contacted on 01403 783368.

This Saturday's hill climb at Chantry Lane, Storrington, incorporates the Sussex Championship and it has attracted a good field. Defending champion James Harris (East Grinstead) will be looking for his third title win, but clubmate Steve Dennis will be hoping to make up for last year when a short delay in getting to the start cost him the title. The leading visitor is Twickenham's Stewart Jardine. Start is at 2pm.

Brighton Mitre are planning to run two open hill climbs on the same day in November next year. The two events would have an overall prize fund and one would take place on Steyning Bostal and the other on Mill Hill near Shoreham.

Steve Dennis's win in the Sussex sporting courses competition, based on the results of 23 time trials during the season, was announced two weeks ago.

He clinched the title when he won the Goodwood Classic, but the full results show that his final total of 716 points was only 11 ahead of Brighton Mitre's Tristan Court.

Third place went to Steve Lenn (Bognor Regis) with 654. Tim Holmes (Brighton Mitre) was fourth with 651, Clive Oxborrow (Etoile) fifth with 623 and Jay Chisnall sixth with 606 to give Mitre the team win.

Angela Nainby (East Grinstead) won the women's title, while Worthing rider Peter Scarsbrook (Etoile) won the age-related veteran's competition.
