Emotions have run high about what to do with nuisance badgers in Saltdean. But there are always two sides to every story.

Some residents felt their houses were under threat from the animals. They felt so strongly, they called in the Government which decided to kill the badgers.

Other residents were angered at what they saw as extreme action and protested. They were outraged when two of the badgers were killed.

Defra suspended the killings in the hope of finding a solution which would satisfy all sides.

It should have acted more sensitively in the first place and consulted residents.

The community has been divided and many fingers of blame have been pointed. This must be put in the past.

All the residents, whatever their views, need to come together and work on resolving what happens next.

If the residents who are affected by the badgers are given a peaceful life, the badgers themselves should have the right to a life.
