The talents of singer Kate Simmonds have been known to a select crowd for the past few years.

Based in Brighton for more than ten years, she was the soaring soul voice which fronted the Fabulous Sister Brothers Band when she was known as Kate Ayling.

Her co-writer with that group and further projects was jazz and pop pianist Mark Edwards, who became well-established with the bands of Bryan Spring, Nigel Thomas, Ben Castle, Julian Nicholas and Ron Parry.

He has also been collaborating with Aztec Camera's Roddy Frame.

The Fabulous Sister Brothers was a unique and exhilarating live experience and the spirit evident in that band has continued in Kate's solo recordings, One Day, and the new release, Heart And Soul.

Both were co-produced by Mark at the Orange Room, the new studios in Peacehaven.

Heart And Soul features Yolanda Charles from the Robbie Williams Band and legendary guitarist Jim Mullen.

On the Brighton date will be bassist Kevan Frost, Brighton guitarist Doug Scarratt, drummer Phil Crabbe and singers Tracey Riggan and Carla Hayles.

The band has been touring nationwide to rapturous receptions and Kate and Mark expect no less on their home turf.

"The band is brilliant. The are all from different backgrounds," says Kate.

"They vibe off each other. The new songs are similar to the Fabulous Sister Brothers Band, with jazz, soul, funk and new-school r'n'b. It has a contemporary feel, as Mark and I like the same things. And, although our songs are about our faith, everyone can enjoy it."
