A man who lay unconscious for four weeks after being left for dead at a roadside has woken up and is on the way to a full recovery.

Daniel May, 23, of Longview, Heathfield, lay in a critical condition for four weeks at Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre, Haywards Heath, with massive head and chest injuries.

The Queens Park Rangers fan was transferred to Eastbourne District General Hospital two weeks ago when he regained consciousness.

Two days ago he was transferred to a rehabilitation centre near Brighton.

Mr May was found at the side of the A265 Burwash Road, Heathfield, on August 25 at 11.15pm.

He had been to The Crown pub, Heathfield, with friends, including Andy Sands, also 23.

Mr Sands said: "He's got better far quicker than anyone thought he would. I went to see him a couple of days ago and he was laughing and joking like his old self. He thinks he'll be back in the pub soon.

"He seems to remember quite a lot of what happened to him but police are still looking into everything."

Mr May's family has offered a £2,000 reward for information. Police think he may have been the victim of a hit-and-run driver.
