Arming police with an incapacitant spray has slashed the number of attacks on officers.
Injuries from assaults fell to 155 in the year ending March compared to 267 in the previous 12 months.
Chief Constable Ken Jones said: "The introduction of the Captor incapacitant spray has greatly reduced assaults on our staff, in particular where an injury has been caused."
