A man appeared in court on Saturday accused of murdering retired Sussex businessman Robert Saint.

David Alexander Macbride, 44, of Bramber Close, Bognor, spoke only to confirm his name and address at the short hearing before magistrates in Worthing.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Lewes Crown Court on October 16.

Mr Saint, 70, of Horsham Road, Steyning, went missing more than a week ago after going to meet a buyer for his 42ft motor cruiser Sundowner.

Detectives called in the Royal Navy to help search for Mr Saint, whose wallet was found washed up on an Isle of Wight beach.

The Sundowner, one of only four of its kind ever made, was discovered moored at Itchenor, near Chichester.

The results of tests to ascertain if blood found in the galley was that of Mr Saint were still awaited, a Sussex Police spokesman said.

Although police launched a murder investigation, Mr Saint's body has not been found.
