A police inspector who was charged with downloading child pornography has resigned from the Sussex force.
As we reported yesterday, Chris Wratten, 48, faces 27 counts of downloading the material from the internet.
A Sussex Police spokesman today confirmed: "Mr Wratten has resigned from the force." He declined to comment further.
Mr Wratten is free on police bail and is due to appear before Crawley magistrates next Friday.
A few months away from retirement, Mr Wratten, who lives in Bexhill, was based at Hastings before his suspension from the force in July.
Meanwhile, a policeman based in Brighton remains suspended from duty on suspicion of similar offences.
He has been bailed to return to a Sussex police station in November.
Sussex Police began investigating after receiving information from the FBI.
