Ritchie Venner, the Sussex No 1, has been seeded No.4 at the Claire Pengelly Memorial Open this weekend at Paignton, Devon

It is Venner's first venture on to the Grand Prix circuit this season. In the same event last year, he reached the semi-finals.

The opening session of the County Championships takes place this weekend at New Malden, Surrey. Sussex are scheduled to play Hampshire and Berkshire.

Worthing-based top spinners Peter Bartram and Andy Walker will lead the Sussex challenge.

Hastings champion Paul Barry will play No.3 in the men's matches.

Youngsters Sara Coggon (Hastings) and Sarah Stedman (Arundel) will lead the challenge for Sussex in women's matches.

Entry forms for players who wish to compete in the 2002 Sussex Open Grand Prix are now in circulation.

The event will take place at the Christ's Hospital stadium near Horsham on 18 tables on November 9 and 10 under the direction of the English Table Tennis Association events manager, Harvey Webb.
