I was pleased to learn of the "Keep glass off the beach" campaign.

I would like to suggest a target for this campaign, namely the Lush night club on Worthing pier.

At low tide one day last week, standing at just one point on the pier, I counted some bottles lying on the sand below.

They were for beers and mixer drinks and, given their concentration there, it seems they must mostly have come from Lush.

Judging by the brightness of the colours on the bottles' labels, they had all been thrown there relatively recently.

This made me wonder how many previously discarded bottles now lie buried or have been smashed and scattered along the beach by storms and currents.

I have absolutely nothing against clubs and do not want to be a killjoy to young people having a good night out.

But it seems to me it would be little infringement on clubbers' enjoyment to ask them to behave more responsibly with bottles.

Nor would much effort be needed from Lush's management, which could simply provide suitable (recycling) bins and some encouragement to use them at the club's exits.
