Two twin brothers have been left too scared to go out in Brighton after one suffered a broken jaw in a vicious beating.

The attack happened in London Road when Daniel and Nigel Craft were on their way home after an evening with friends.

Two teenagers approached the pair, who live in Brighton, and one grabbed Daniel, pushing him against the window of the Poundstretcher shop.

He was punched in the face twice and then hit with the offender's forearm, breaking his jaw.

Doctors at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, used screws to repair Daniel's jaw.

Sales assistant Daniel, 18, said it was the last time he would go out in the centre of Brighton at night.

He said: "It is too unsafe. All we were doing was making our way home."

His mother, Lorraine, said: "It's a shame they feel that way but they feel nervous and they've lost their confidence. What happened was disgraceful."

The attack happened between 9.15pm and 10pm on Friday. Police are appealing for witnesses.

Detective Constable Lee Horner said: "We need people to tell us names and addresses of those responsible.

"The fact Daniel and Nigel are twins and look alike might jog the memories of witnesses.

"Daniel might have been mistaken by the offenders for someone they had had words with earlier in the evening.

"Either way, there was no excuse for this. This was completely unprovoked."

One offender was 18 with cropped ginger hair.

He wore a white baseball cap, dark jacket and dark bottoms and he carried what appeared to be a bottle of wine.

The other was 18 with dark hair and he was wearing a dark jacket and trousers.

Anyone with information should call Detective Constable Horner on 0845 6070999 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
