Rookie boss Andy Agutter savoured a win over his mentor last night when Shoreham booked a Sussex Senior Cup second round clash with holders Eastbourne Borough.

Shoreham dumped Sammy Donnelly's Southwick side out of the competition after prevailing in a fiercely contested derby at Old Barn Way.

The visitors scored twice in the last seven minutes after dominating much of the game to set-up a match with another of Agutter's ex-bosses, Borough's Garry Wilson.

Agutter, who is only two months into his first managerial job at Middle Road, said: "I played under Sammy at Shoreham so obviously it is nice to win.

"I cannot remember our goalkeeper having a save to make in the second half.

"Both sides were up for it and there was plenty of passion."

Southwick, who were missing several key players like Mark Burt, Simon Funnell and Tony Holden, had to play Damian Webber in attack as an emergency striker.

However Webber saw little of the ball because Shoreham asserted themselves early in the game and Dominic Shepherd had a right foot shot well saved by Lee Bray.

After the break Stuart Townsend hit the bar for Shoreham before Shepherd released Darren Annis to open the scoring in the 83rd minute with a low left foot finish.

It was no more than Shoreham deserved and Paul Lockhart rounded off the victory with a cracking finish in the 90th minute into the top corner following Mark Pulling's lay-off.

Lockhart said: "I didn't know what to do when it went in.

"I haven't scored for four seasons so to see it fly in was a real surprise."

Donnelly admitted his team were beaten by the better side but said he could not fault his players' efforts.

He said: "It was always going to be difficult because we were missing six of our better players.

"I know we will get better when we get the likes of Funnell back but I cannot be angry with them because the team out there gave it everything.

"Aggy (Agutter) is pleased to have won but he can come back and see me when he has done 29 years."
