My spirits lifted when I read John Parry's article (The Argus, September 27).

Was it the preamble to an announcement he was off to warmer climes or, at the very least, his spiritual home of Tunbridge Wells? Sadly not.

It seems we are stuck with his weekly bashing of the Government.

Never mind it was elected with the two biggest majorities in history and supported by a considerable number of people locally.

We will have to put up with Mr Parry's regular tirades against "political correctness", which he seems too blinkered to acknowledge as meaning not being offensive to people because of who they are or what they are born with.

Expect more ranting in support of chasing and tearing apart small animals in the name of "tradition". Let's nail one of his myths here and now.

The concerns of "country folk" are the same as city folk: Jobs, schools and healthcare, not foxhunting or a feeling of powerlessness just because the Tories are out of office.

Mr Parry fails to back his argument that people are leaving the country in droves because of the Government with a single fact.

If he upped and went to any other Western European country, he would be paying far more in taxes than he does here and would be doing so in euros.

He would not have the NHS or any number of safeguards that our relatively comfortable and secure society provides.

Nevertheless, if he wants to pack up his fashionable cynicism along with that political axe he is always grinding, I would happily carry his bags to the airport myself.
