Brighton and Hove Albion manager Martin Hinshelwood says he will not resign after nine League defeats in a row.

Some fans are calling for Hinshelwood's head after the Seagulls' losing League run continued against Grimsby at Withdean on Saturday.

A 2-1 defeat in Saturday's basement battle has dumped Albion to the bottom of the table, but Hinshelwood vowed: "I love the game, I love what I'm doing and I'm not going to walk away from it.

"The fans pay their money. They are entitled to say what they feel and good luck to them. We will just keep going on.

"If powers above me do things that's up to them. It's a season, we are back in a big division and I think a lot of people are forgetting where we have been in the last five years and where we have come.

"I am getting a bit fed up with people knocking these players and myself and the coaching staff. We are having a right go at it. Yes we need results and we will get them.

"I'm fed up with people saying you have got three games, two games or whatever. That is not doing the players any good, because they feel as though they are letting me down.

"We are in it together and we will just keep going together."

Young centre half Adam Virgo, who made his first League start of the season against Grimsby, urged fans to get off Hinshelwood's back.

"It's the players that go out there and perform," he said. "We have got to lay off the manager and look at ourselves.

"He is a very good manager. All right, it's not going well at the moment but he is doing the right thing and trying to make us play.

"We are 100 per cent behind him and the fans have got to get behind him a little bit more and give him the support he deserves."

One ray of hope for Hinshelwood was the goalscoring return of Bobby Zamora. He marked his comeback from knee ligament damage with a 71st-minute equaliser.

Zamora was substituted in the closing stages, but Hinshelwood revealed: "Bobby came off with cramp. There are no problems with his knee.

"In the first half he was a bit wary of it, but once he scored the goal he seemed to come alive a bit more."
