Crawley struggled to find the net against Great Yarmouth before they cruised to a 3-0 victory at Broadfield Stadium.

But Reds boss Billy Smith revealed he never doubted his side would beat their Norfolk visitors, two leagues below his Dr Martens premier outfit. He said: "It was one-way traffic and Great Yarmouth did not manage a shot.

"They never caused us a single problem and although we missed quite a few chances we put away our goals well.

"All the players did their bit and Marc Pullan held the defence together well."

Smith retained the 4-4-2 line-up which had won 2-0 at Halesowen in the league last Saturday.

The only change to his starting line-up was the return of regular goalkeeper Andy Little, who was unavailable last week because of a work commitment.

Cup fever has yet to grip the club and the fans gave the game the thumbs down.

Only 723 fans turned up, the lowest gate of the season, and 1,000 less than watched the last home game against leaders Worcester City a fortnight ago.

Reds soon took command and created a series of assaults on the visitors' penalty area.

Nic McDonnell, Neil Le Bihan and Ernie Cooksey all went close.

But the Crawley faithful had to wait until the 44th minute before they found the net.

A Mo Harkin cross was handballed by defender Lee Brown and Dave Stevens powered in the resulting penalty.

In the second half, Crawley's superiority showed, although again it took a long time to put the game beyond doubt.

Stevens twisted his knee and was replaced after 57 minutes by Danny Hockton.

The change added further momentum to Reds' attacking waves.

Hockton finally scored Crawley's second goal in the 83rd minute, latching onto a threaded move down the middle involving Harkin and McDonnell, before magnificently chipping over the goalkeeper.

The fans found their voices and roared Crawley to a third goal a minute into injury time when Ben Judge supplied McDonnell for his fifth of the season.

McDonnell beat two defenders before shooting left-footed past static Banham.

Crawley return to Broadfield Stadium tomorrow for the Dr Martens League Cup preliminary round clash against Kent club Sittingbourne from the eastern division.

Smith expects to field all five substitutes from Saturday in the starting line-up and will begin with Hockton and Warren Bagnall as his striking duo.
