Albion manager Martin Hinshelwood has vowed not to sink under the strain of eight straight League defeats and an ever-increasing injury list.

Nathan Jones joined the casualties in Saturday's unlucky 1-0 reverse at Rotherham, decided by Alan Lee's controversial long-range chip when the referee overruled a linesman's offside flag.

The Seagulls already had seven players out through injury or suspension for the trip to Millmoor and now Jones faces weeks on the sidelines again.

The Welshman hurt a medial ligament in his left knee after suffering the same injury to his right knee during pre-season.

Hinshelwood insisted: "I keep saying to people I have waited a long time for this opportunity. I am not going to buckle under pressure and these players won't let me do that either.

"I will just keep going and if things happen they are going to happen. It might be it might not be, but all the while I am in charge we will keep competing like we did on Saturday."

Dick Knight has warned Hinshelwood's job is under threat if Albion lose ten on the trot, but Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore urged the chairman to "be brave" and stand by his appointment.

"They are in exactly the same position as we were last year, four points out of ten games," said Moore. They were neat and tidy, but once they get all those players back they will be a different side with Kitson in there, Barrett and Zamora. I'm just glad they didn't play against us.

"They will settle down and then know what it's about. It is very difficult when you jump up. They were always going to be on a hiding to nothing, two promotions, two different managers then he (Hinshelwood) takes over in the First Division.

"Where did they want them to go, the Premiership? It's going to be difficult and the chairman has got to be brave and say well hold on a minute, they have got good players missing.

"You have got to look at the long term, not the short term. It's only ten games. If my chairman had done that last year I would have been out of a job."

Loan signing Barrett's three-match ban is now over, but Arsenal will not let him play in tomorrow's Worthington Cup second round tie at Ipswich when Hinshelwood hopes to have some of the injured players back.

"It will be good for everybody, myself, the players and supporters," he said. "It will be like new faces coming in, although we could have done without the game being brought forward."

Albion's next League outing is a bottom of the table crunch against Grimsby at Withdean on Saturday.
