East Preston closed a traumatic week for the club with a morale-boosting 3-2 victory over Three Bridges.

They fought back from 2-0 down to win with a last-minute goal in a pulsating division one encounter.

EP defender Abe Beaney is still in intensive care after a car crash last Friday night and everyone at the West Sussex club is stunned.

Boss Vic Short said: "It is a tremendous result. It has been a very tough week for everyone at the club and our thoughts are obviously with Abe and his family. This was a terrific performance and just what the club needed to lift the grief for one night at least.

"Emotions are very high here at the moment and this has lifted everyone."

Bridges went 2-0 ahead through Phil Gault and Pat Massaro but goals by Lee Farrell, Brett Neil and Matt Huckett in the last minute sealed victory for Short's men.

Burgess Hill continued their run of good form with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Selsey at Leylands Park which came courtesy of a goal by man-of-the-match, Leo Day.

Manager Danny Bloor said: "I am pleased with the performance as we have won our last few games easily but aganst Selsey we had to show a different side to our football to take the win."

Chichester boss Adie Girdler was also celebrating a 1-0 win after they beat visitors Shoreham courtesy of a Roger Moore goal after 15 minutes following a good cross by Billy Butlin. Girdler said: "It was nice to keep a clean sheet as it was our first of the season."

Horsham YMCA sunk visitors Peacehaven 2-0 with Damien Francis getting the first goal on 50 minutes with a volley.

Paul Young, grabbed the the second five minutes later with a half-volley for his eighth goal of the season..

YM manager John Suter said: "We were not so good in the first half but it was a much-improved second-half performance."

Division two high-fliers Shinewater pushed Pagham all the way in their John O'Hara League Cup clash but three goals in extra time consigned them to a 5-2 defeat against the division one visitors.
