I agree with Hanish Patel (The Argus, September 14) that the shops at The Avenue, South Moulsecoomb, need some modernisation.

But as for being a "deprived area", what a cheek.

Perhaps Mr Patel could explain what we are deprived of? Whoops, sorry - I know. We are deprived of becoming part of his shop empire.

Quite a proportion of the residents are elderly so keeping the post office would be a good idea.

But will Mr Patel take this into account when pricing his goods or will his prices be high? If this is the case, I'd say to elderly people, take advantage of the free bus to Asda in Hollingbury.

This venture will create jobs for the area - excellent - but will Mr Patel be employing people who actually acknowledge you with a smile or "thank you", unlike the gentleman who served me my Lottery ticket last Saturday?

Also, will Mr Patel be providing extra litter bins for the area to cope with the rubbish that will be generated by his take-away business or will he be relying on the local residents to pick up the rubbish from their gardens?

I'm sorry, Mr Patel, if this letter is on the negative side but I'm sure you will agree it's these areas you need to look into carefully.

It's not really the best way, either, to start a business by calling this area deprived - you do not live here.
