Tory councillor Brian Oxley has raised fears that jobs will be lost at Gatwick if Government proposals are put into operation.
Possible plans include building a new runway at Heathrow and a brand new airport in Kent.
Coun Oxley, Opposition leader on Brighton and Hove City Council, said some scheduled services could move to the new facilities.
He added: "I have asked the council what steps it is taking to consider these matters given that there are many airline employees living in Brighton and Hove and that Gatwick Airport is a major economic force in the area."
