Motocross makes a welcome return to the Piddingworth Circuit, Ditchling Road, Brighton, on Sunday.

This annual event was missing from last year's calendar due to the threat of foot and mouth disease.

However, the Brighton and District Motorcycle Club have a full programme planned tomorrow with classes for Experts, Juniors, Fourstrokes and Classic pre '85 Sidecars, with a few invited modern sidecars making up the field.

Brighton brothers Ryan and Ross Lang head the expert entry list riding their Languard-sponsored Yamahas.

Danny Beamish, from Small Dole, is making a return to racing after an injury forced him to retire midway through last season. Beamish won his class at the last Brighton meeting two years ago and providing he has regained full fitness he should be in with a good chance this year.

Alastair Brown, 16, makes his debut at this circuit in the junior class, however, he should know his way around having helped his dad Roger lay out the track and prepare the course for Sunday's event.

James Harris is also 16 and having his first ride at Brighton. Harris, from Small Dole, has a pedigree of motocross racing, being the grandson of local star of the Fifties and Sixties, Graham Beamish.

Local riders contesting the Fourstroke class are Keith Best and James Tuesday from Uckfield, Lawrence Osbourne from Crawley and Pevensey's George Welfare.

In the classic pre '85 sidecar class there are seven women entered as passengers. Husband and wife team Keith and Helen Lessiter have been instrumental in bringing this class to Sussex.

The Lessiter's Norton Wasp is sponsored by Mr Scooter at Haywards Heath and they are looking forward to returning to work there on Tuesday morning with the winners' trophy.

Making up the field on modern machinery are invited local riders Mike Smith/Ben Dighton (Bolney), Paul Munnery/Paul Bridgewater (Handcross) and Alan and Chris Sturt (Small Dole).

Practice starts at 10am with the first race at 11.30am.

The circuit is situated off the Ditchling Road, two miles north of Old Boat Corner. It will be clearly marked from the A23 and A27. Further information from Roger Brown 01273 563931 or Kevin McDavitt 01273 601465.
