I am responding to Roger Davis (Letters, September 12), who tried to help a Brighton woman find her lost cat.
The RSPCA received a call from a member of the public saying two stray cats in poor condition had turned up in his garden in Brighton.
The RSPCA's policy is not to take away apparently stray cats for re-homing if they appear to be healthy.
An RSPCA animal collection officer arrived and collected the cats and, as there was no room at the charity's centre in Patcham, took them to our nearest centre, in Chichester.
If anyone loses a cat, they can contact the RSPCA's national number on 08705 555999, where the details of the cat will be logged on a lost-and-found register and matched with any cats that are found.
That way, even if the cat is taken to an animal home some miles from its owner, they can still be reunited.
However, by far the best thing cat owners can do to make sure they do not lose a pet is to have it micro-chipped.
This painless procedure will ensure that wherever the cat is found it can be quickly scanned and reunited with its owner.
If these two cats had been microchipped, they would have been back with their owners the day they went missing.
