As a park user myself, I am sorry Brighton and Hove City Council's swift removal of unsafe play equipment in Victoria Recreation Ground, Portslade, and other nearby parks has caused so much upset.
The equipment had to be removed because it had become dangerous and was beyond repair. Safety has to be the first priority of the council.
Plans are well in hand to install new play equipment in Victoria Recreation Ground.
I am also pleased to inform readers that new play equipment will be installed in Vale Park, Aldrington Recreation Ground, Easthill Park, Hove Park and Mile Oak Recreation Ground.
-Coun Heather James, deputy chairwoman, environment committee, Brighton and Hove City Council
