Sussex coach Peter Moores admitted his side "didn't fight hard enough" after a batting collapse against Lancashire on the first day of the Championship match against Hove.
The county lost seven wickets for 50 runs as they were bowled out for 240 and Lancashire were 116-1 at the close, their total boosted by a wayward Jason Lewry who conceded 52 runs in seven overs including eight wides and three no balls.
Moores said: "It was a challenge early on when the wicket did a bit, but we had two excellent partnerships between Murray Goodwin and Chris Adams and Murray and Tim Ambrose "We knew they would bring back Peter Martin and Glen Chapple and I just thought we didn't fight hard enough at that stage. We were a bit lacksadaisical."
Moores spent time after play working with Lewry.
