Baby Lewis Young made a dramatic entrance to the world - on the back seat of his grandmother's Vauxhall Cavalier.

Debbie Keep's waters broke shortly before 10.45pm on Wednesday, en route from her home in Seaford to hospital in Eastbourne with her mum and boyfriend Simon.

Her mum Chris pulled over near the Golden Galleon pub on the A259 and by the time she called for an ambulance Lewis had arrived.

Debbie, 23, said: "I realised the baby was coming so we just pulled over.

"We couldn't get signals on our mobile phones so my mum went to the phone box and by the time she came back, he had been born. My boyfriend had to deliver him - he didn't do too badly."

Simon, a 29-year-old carpenter, said: "It didn't look like we would be pushed for time earlier in the evening. I was tucking into a pizza and asking Debbie how she was every ten minutes.

"When we were driving to the hospital, I didn't realise he was going to come that quickly."

Debbie and her 7lb 3oz son were checked over in hospital and were both doing well.
