I was walking on the beach near Brighton Marina on Sunday when I noticed some glass bottles lying on the beach.

Thinking about The Argus campaign to Keep Glass Off The Beach, I decided to "do my bit" and pick up the bottles to put them in a bin.

After wandering around with them for 20 minutes trying to find a receptacle, I ended up leaving them on the prom, deciding they were better on the walkway than the pebbles.

No wonder the beaches are so dangerous and litter abounds in the streets if Brighton and Hove City Council cannot even be bothered to place bins where we most need rubbish deposited.

I am also sick of hearing that Fatboy Slim's event and fans are to blame for all the rubbish on the beach.

I went to the concert (but do not consider myself a member of the "yoof" market) and took some alcohol. Admittedly, this was in glass bottles but I had every intention of taking my rubbish away with me.

I was fully expecting to be searched and maybe even have my drinks confiscated. I wouldn't really have minded this as I knew glass was discouraged.

I saw no police, no security, nobody searched me and nobody asked me to put my glass away. I took my rubbish away and left early but was dismayed, not by the fans but the lack of foresight from the council.

Last year's concert had no advertising and attracted 40,000 local fans. This year, there was constant advertising for a month on E4, flyers and radio coverage.

Is it so surprising the numbers of fans far surpassed last year? I don't think so. Is it again the council trying to blame the public for its own mistakes? Yes, I think it is.
