All power to the Lib Dem campaign for extra money to fund increased opening hours and more books for public libraries in Brighton and Hove.

While on the subject, public libraries are quintessentially apolitical and non-partisan so I agree with Simon Cross (Letters, August 2) that to name the new Brighton and Hove Central Library the Jubilee Library in relation to the Queen's jubilee year is totally inappropriate anywhere, let alone somewhere like Brighton.

The new library may well be around long after the demise of the monarchy.

Aside from this, it is hardly the cutting-edge name needed for a new, forward-looking development and shows a lamentable lack of creativity and imagination.

How about a competition to find a more attractive name, if a name other than the City Library is necessary at all?

Incidentally, the name Infodome was one possibility discussed at one of the many earlier planning stages.
