A taxi driver may go to prison for causing a crash due to falling asleep at the wheel after 19 hours continuous driving (The Argus, July 31).

If this had been a train driver, he would have gone to prison and the train company concerned heavily fined.

At last, it seems a court is taking the issue of responsibility for public safety seriously for those who drive for a living.

It is high time the minority who do drive professionally but ignore their duty of care should be punished (for example by removal of licences and fines for speeding, running red lights etc) and their companies also made liable.
