Few people will fail to be moved reading Phillippa Saunders' story in The Argus today.

Every year, she has watched her son Daniel become more and more ill.

She knows, in her heart, he will never grow up to have children of his own.

But Phillippa has found an oasis of hope in Demelza House.

Far from fitting the image of a depressing grey hospice, it is a vibrant community giving parents and children alike a place to go where they can spend time together as families with support, help and love on tap.

Phillippa has learnt to stay strong and make every day of little Daniel's life special until the inevitable happens, and the staff at Demelza House help to give her the strength she needs.

That such a place exists only through the kindness of charity is a modern-day tragedy.
