I really was not surprised to read about a pedestrian being attacked by a cyclist (The Argus, July 5).

I went on a Reclaim The Streets demo a few years ago but have changed my mind. I don't want to reclaim the streets, just the pavements. If it's not cars parking on them, it's cyclists, skateboarders, scooters or rollerbladers. It's against the law and these people are criminals.

Although I appreciate this is all low on the list of police priorities, it's really taking the mickey when the police ride their bikes on the pavement. There are tactics that can be used, such as spreading across the pavement or weaving to prevent cyclists from getting past or, even, casually flinging out a bag as they fly past.

I don't advocate violence but if these people choose to exempt themselves from the law, they take their chances and a whack from a walking stick as they cycle past might help them think about their law-breaking.
