Albion's directors meet today to discuss the hunt for a new manager.

Chairman Dick Knight will brief his colleagues on the long-running search for Peter Taylor's successor.

Chief executive Martin Perry said: "It's a scheduled meeting, nothing special, but the subject will be discussed and the directors updated."

Knight returned on Tuesday night from a two-week holiday in Spain. He met with some candidates while he was away.

Serious discussions have taken place with four people, but three of them have been ruled out.

Taylor steered Albion to the Second Division title, then quit at the end of April citing the wait for a new stadium at Falmer and a low budget for Division One this season.

The Seagulls have admitted the budget is one of the reasons they are having difficulty filling the post.

Another is Knight's condition that the new man must work with the existing backroom staff.

Director of youth Martin Hinshelwood is one of the people Knight is known to have spoken to about the job since Taylor's departure.

Preliminary talks with former Brentford boss Steve Coppell and ex-Wimbledon chief Terry Burton were not followed up and Perry has dismissed speculation that Arsenal stalwart Tony Adams is a contender.
