Visiting Lisbon last week to meet a new grandchild, I did not recognise the city free of parking-problems depicted by Cedric Baker (Letters, June 16). On the contrary, I found pavements totally blocked by illegally-parked cars and no enforcement of parking regulations, which meant we had to push the new baby's pram along the road.
If we are going to have comparisons with other European cities, let us have some real facts. The truth is that all cities now have to cope with more cars than ever before. We all will have to come to terms with the need for greater regulation of private vehicles and greater encouragement of public transport.
