How sad the Tories have become the dinosaur party with their seafront underground parking proposals (The Argus, June 18). The South Downs National Park and Falmer community stadium will generate millions of visitors, many from Europe. Some will need public transport and a modern Southampton-to-Channel Tunnel coastal mainline passenger and freight railway as villages, towns and cities become traffic saturated.

Instead of stupid ideas to increase car dependency, there is an urgent need to consider constructing a monorail or similar public transit from the Marina to the King Alfred sports complex, on to Shoreham harbour and airport, coupled to Brighton station and extending to the South Downs and Falmer.

All goods yards must be reinstated to reduce road freight and coach traffic congestion. Devil's Dyke railway ought to be restored as a tourist attraction.
