David Rogers (Letters, May 4) bemoaned the new stadium issue attracting responses to councillors from "non-locals" - as he would doubtless term me, among others.

I would suggest this indicates the new stadium is not, in fact, a purely local issue (if there is any such thing).

The provision of sporting facilities is something that attracts an inflow of resources from people like myself who, when they visit the city to watch an event, contribute to the local economy by staying in hotels, eating in restaurants and so on.

Mr Rogers should acknowledge that over the past year the Albion have been responsible for just about all the favourable publicity I have read about the city.

They are fine ambassadors and Mr Rogers should, in fact, be proud of a club who have done a lot more to show the new city in a positive light than anything or anyone else since its graduation from town status.

The Albion community is a large one and it spreads not only into Yorkshire but across the globe too.

With the possible exception of the Pavilion, no other Brighton-based institution can match this. This should be a source of pride to the city, not opprobrium.
