A female body was recovered yesterday from the foot of the cliff at Beachy Head.
Police were called after a handbag was found at the top of the 500ft cliff near Eastbourne.
Coastguards launched a helicopter search but abandoned it due to poor visibility. A cliff rescue team found the body just before 11.15am.
Police said the woman's identity would not be released until relatives had been informed.
