Inspired by Dick Knight's question: "How does it feel to be A First Division Poet in Residence?"
The Guardian may not agree.
My critics will no-no it.
A First Division Poet!
Was in Division Three:
The Part-Time Poets'
Loomed large and
ominously . . .
By men of foul intent:
An outside bog in Kent.
I'm filled with inspiration!
My poetry got better:
Verbs and nouns began
Last year I got promotion -
And a Championship as well!
"I'm in Division One ..."
In Residence, that's me -
And Hove Albion F.C.!
It's five years since the Goldstone died.
Five years from then
to now.
You want a rollercoaster?
You've got one, folks -
and how!
So, council, listen here.
We need a proper stadium.
Now get your arse in gear!
Well done to Peter and
To Dick and Martin too.
We've seen it all, through thick and thin.
It's like a dream come true.
