An elderly woman was killed when she was hit by a car beside a main road at the height of the rush hour yesterday morning.
The 81-year-old pedestrian was struck by a Nissan being driven by a 57-year-old man on the A22 Polegate crossroads.
The woman, from Polegate, who has not yet been named, was taken to the Eastbourne District General Hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Crash investigators closed the road for two hours.
