Brighton boxer Chill John aims to end fighter Jon Thaxton's professional career tomorrow night at the Norwich Sport Village.

Thaxton, 27, drops down a division to lightweight in an attempt to resurrect his faltering career following defeat against Belfast's Eamonn Magee in a Commonwealth title clash in February.

Thaxton, who took WBU light-welterweight champion Ricky Hatton 12 rounds before losing on points, said: "I have to win. If I don't I have nowhere else to go."

John, a former two-time kick-boxing world champion, said: "I want to put him in retirement.

"People are saying it is going to be hard, but I feel I can do a number on him and shock everyone."

John, unbeaten in seven outings since turning pro with Chris Eubank's former trainer Ronnie Davies, added: "People say a lot of things about Thaxton. They tell me he is the only fighter to take Ricky Hatton 12 rounds, they tell me he's strong, they say he's stocky. I just know that he can be beaten.

"I'm going to his home town but I don't care. I love being the underdog. It does not scare me. I would just love to stick him on his backside and see what the crowd have to say then."

Davies said: "Chill has nothing to lose and everything to gain.

"Some people are wondering whether I have over-matched Chill. But they must understand he has been sparring ten hard rounds with world champion Colin Dunne, and come out on on top on some occasions.

"Chill is something special. He is highly talented, supremely fit and he can only gain from this fight. If he were to lose, and I am 100 per cent sure he won't, he will live to fight another day.

"If he can produce the win, he will shoot straight up the rankings and grab the recognition he deserves."
