By referring to the actions of the Sussex students who went to the West Bank as "foolish", Ivor Caplin MP did exactly what he was voted in to do - look after the well-being of his constituents.
The students went against the explicit advice of the Foreign Office and Mr Caplin expressed a legitimate, apolitical and caring response.
My own response is that of wonder. If the students' aim was indeed to sympathise with victims, why didn't they visit Israeli victims of Palestinian atrocities?
