Schools across East and West Sussex are to benefit from £6.25 million to replace run-down or outdated buildings.
The Government today announced East Sussex County Council is to receive £1.457 million from the Targeted Capital Fund.
West Sussex County Council will be handed £4.8 million, School Standards Minister Catherine Ashton said.
It could also be used to build new facilities, such as Information and Communications Technology (ICT) suites.
Baroness Ashton said: "We are committed to improving school buildings. A clear link exists between well-maintained and well-equipped schools and high levels of pupil attainment."
Earlier this year, we revealed that crumbling schools across Sussex would need repairs costing £100 million during the next five years.
West Sussex County Council has a bill of £76.4 million, of which £4.2 million is regarded as urgent work.
A further £27.1 million will need to be spent within two years and the remaining £45.1 million within five years.
East Sussex County Council has a £5.9 million bill for urgent work, £16 million to be spent within two years and a further £11.3 million within five years, totalling £33.2 million.
