Bruce the alsatian bit off part of a teenage boy's ear after officers were called to break up a latenight brawl in Brighton.
Now he has been condemned to death for what he did but efforts are being made to save his life.
Neighbours of the dog handler are right to fight for a reprieve. Bruce was called to deal with an ugly and confused incident late at night involving 20 people.
There was a skirmish while the teenager was being detained and it was then that the ear was severed.
It shouldn't have happened but luckily the missing section has been reattached to the boy's ear successfully.
Even if Bruce has to leave the force, he should not be put down. He was doing his job and deserves another chance.
