With the passing of the Queen Mother, I am sure there are people like myself who wish to share a personal reminiscence, albeit, in my case, from about 70 years ago.

As a teenager, I once sewed sequins on a ballgown while working for Madame Isabel Hanson, court dressmaker, of Ebury Street, London.

I was living close by in Palace Mews at the time. I had to deliver the garment to 145 Piccadilly for the Duchess of York (the Queen Mother as she then was) and recall being given 6d (now 21/2p) by the butler at the front door.
