How are we to behave in the face of the tragedy unfolding in Palestine?

The US appears unable to effectively influence the Israelis, having shown its partisanship by vetoing any criticism for 50 years.

Yet we don't really want to damage our very effective alliance with the US.

Equally, we may be deeply concerned about our British-Jewish compatriots and their apparent unquestioning support for Israeli policy.

They and Israeli Jews are not behaving in a way we can respect.

Yet we don't really want to say or do anything to encourage racial or religious divisions in the UK.

Nevertheless, we are witnessing a second Holocaust, led by a second Hitler, in Palestine.

There is no doubt the Israeli government plans to avoid peace at any cost so sooner or later it will be able to incorporate Palestine into the state of Israel.

This will also make life so impossible for the Palestinians that they disappear. (Sounds familiar, does it not?) This would be a gross violation of human rights and the sort of ethnic cleansing we fight elsewhere.

We are expected to accept the Israelis can occupy and ghettoise Palestine for 35 years and then blame the Palestinians for fighting back in any way they can.

They are so reduced in hope they are prepared to use suicide bombers. Why is this terrorism when shooting children with tanks is not?

How can we influence peace and justice in the Holy Land?
