Brighton and Hove has come first in a Christmas tree recycling contest.
Trees weighing more than 50 tonnes were collected after Christmas at 26 recycling points in the city and turned into compost.
Brighton and Hove City Council was placed first in the South East in the competition run by charity Environmental Campaigns (Encams).
Chris Morley, executive councillor for environmental services, was presented with the Going for Green Christmas Tree Recycling Award at the council's Hollingdean refuse and street cleansing depot yesterday.
He said: "This demonstrates how everyone doing their bit to live a more environmentally- friendly lifestyle can make a difference."
