Paul Brooker is a major doubt for the match which could clinch promotion for table-topping Albion.

An ankle injury threatens to rule the former Fulham front man out of Saturday's all-ticket trip to Peterborough.

Brooker was forced off in the first half of Monday's dramatic 2-1 home win against Bristol City.

Boss Peter Taylor said: "Paul turned an ankle over, so he is a big doubt for Saturday.

"It was very disappointing. Paul has been the best player for us over the last month, so we were always going to miss him. We tried to keep him on, but it was just too sore."

Brooker's replacement Lee Steele headed a stoppage time winner and he could now partner loan signing Wayne Gray at London Road.

Taylor's forward options are restricted as 31-goal Bobby Zamora is still sidelined by a dislocated shoulder and Daniel Webb completes a two-match ban on Saturday.

Newcomer Phill Hadland may come into contention as well. The former Leyton Orient winger made his debut against Bristol City as a second half substitute for Gray, with Gary Hart moving from the right flank to the middle.

"When Phill came on we had a lot of pressure," Taylor said. "I thought he was a threat. He was an option wide on the right.

"For us to win without Zamora and Webb and with Brooker off just shows the character of the boys."

Albion will go up on Saturday if they win and third-placed Brentford draw at home to fifth-placed Huddersfield.

The Seagulls could also be promoted on Sunday, when next-to-top Reading visit Tranmere.

A win at Peterborough, victory for Brentford and a defeat or draw for Reading would guarantee a place in the First Division next season.

Fans have been gripped by promotion fever. A huge queue formed outside the club shop in Queens Road, Brighton, early yesterday morning and tickets quickly sold out for Albion's last home game against Swindon on April 13.

Zamora is still on course to make his comeback in that match.

The Seagulls have been allocated almost 4,300 seats and terrace tickets for Peterborough and some are still available to away scheme members only.
